Exporting food from New Zealand into the Asia-Pacific region means meeting and understanding country standards, from safety and traceability, to certifications and logistics. At Reid Produce Co., we’ve built our export operations on compliance and transparency to help clients navigate every regulatory step with confidence.
The Regulatory Foundations: MPI, CFCP, HACCP and GMP
Every food manufacturer in New Zealand must work within the frameworks set by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Reid Produce Co. operates under an MPI-approved Custom Food Control Plan (CFCP), fully compliant with the Food Act 2014, and regularly audited, internally and by MPI-accredited external auditors.
Safety systems are built on the globally recognized HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) framework, which works in combination with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) to ensure hazards are controlled, and product integrity is upheld at every stage.
Reid Produce Co. Certifications
Beyond core regulatory compliance, Reid Produce Co. holds five key certifications tailored for both domestic and export markets:
- Custom Food Control Plan, registered with the Ministry for Primary Industries (NZ)
- Custom Food Control Plan that complies with the Food Act NZ 2014
- Verified Organic Processor/Handler by AsureQuality Ltd: organic status and market eligibility are product-dependent
- Suitable as Halal
- Suitable as Kosher
Reid Produce Co. operates from an organic management system that is certified and audited by AsureQuality Ltd. These certifications demonstrate our ability to cater to niche markets and ethical standards with credibility.
Ensuring Full Traceability & Transparency
New Zealand’s audit-driven food production system emphasises traceability, and our team at Reid Produce Co. goes further. We work exclusively with growers certified under NZ Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) or NZ GAP Global, who all go through regular food safety and traceability audits. This means every batch is fully traceable from farm to final export product.
Our short, transparent supply chain, centred around local sourcing and a state-of-the-art facility in the Hawke’s Bay, allows us to minimise handling steps while maintaining a strong level of control in the export process. Recent investment in steam and filler equipment, freezing options, and general infrastructure has seen the business expand into bespoke produce solutions tailored to the Asian markets.
Tailored Processing for Export Success
At our Hastings facility, we’ve developed highly flexible processing options to meet varied export requirements:
- Kabocha: Our custom-cut, diced or pureed kabocha is block frozen and packed in 10- kg boxes, then shipped in refrigerated containers.
- Fruit & Vegetable Purees: Offering both organic and conventional options, our purees (from pumpkin, squash, berries, kumara, kiwifruit, and more) are block frozen using bespoke cutting and freezing processes that preserve nutrition and flavour.
- Kiwifruit: We source green, gold, and rare red varieties at peak maturity from Bay of Plenty growers, then process them into frozen products or individually quick-frozen, peeled fruit that’s ready for international markets including Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand.
Strategic Location & Export Logistics
Reid Produce Co. is just 20 km away from the International Port of Napier, giving us an edge in efficient export logistics. Our refrigerated containers move seamlessly from facility to vessel, ensuring the produce arrives quickly and stays fresh for Asia-Pacific markets.
