How we work: managing quality, processing and Global Exports

At Reid Produce Co., exporting premium New Zealand produce works within a finely tuned system built on grower partnerships, precise processing, and a dependable supply chain.

As a family-owned business in Hawke’s Bay, we’ve spent decades refining the way we work so customers across the Asia-Pacific region receive consistent, high-quality fruit and vegetable products year-round.

Sourcing with care

Our process begins with trusted New Zealand growers who understand their land and crops. Many of our partners are long-standing suppliers across Hawke’s Bay and the Bay of Plenty, regions known for rich soils, favourable climates, and world-class horticulture. This close proximity allows us to reduce transport time and ensure every batch is fully traceable back to its source.
Because we work seasonally and locally, we can secure fresh produce at the right moment and prepare it quickly for domestic and international distribution.

Processing for quality and consistency

All fruit and vegetables are processed at our Hastings facility under a Ministry for Primary Industries-approved Custom Food Control Plan, supported by Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and regular third-party verification. Here, our team handles washing, peeling, slicing, pureeing, and freezing, tailoring each batch to specific customer requirements.

Our freezing capabilities play a key role in export success. Using individually quick frozen (IQF) and block frozen methods, we preserve the natural colour, taste, and nutritional value of each product while ensuring uniformity for manufacturers and foodservice operators. This allows us to maintain supply even outside peak harvest seasons, giving international partners reliable access to New Zealand-grown produce all year.

Export-Ready Production & Packaging

Every order is prepared with export requirements in mind.

Products are typically packed into 10–15 kg cartons or drums before being loaded into temperature-controlled reefer containers. Because our facility is located just 20 km from Napier Port, we provide efficient turnaround times and minimise the risk of handling delays.

Our team coordinates production schedules, documentation, and shipping cut-offs, ensuring a smooth flow from processing line to vessel. For many partners in Australia and Asia-Pacific, this reliability is a major reason they choose Reid Produce Co.

Cold Chain Integrity & Traceability

Maintaining a seamless cold chain is essential.

Once frozen, products remain at controlled temperatures through storage, transport, and export loading, safeguarding quality throughout the journey. Each batch carries full traceability – from grower to processing date to container number – giving our customers confidence in the safety and origin of the final product.

Reid Produce Co. exports to Australia, Thailand, China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea

Flexible Supply for Global Markets

Different regions have different needs.

Some markets value New Zealand’s counter-seasonal production, which helps fill supply gaps when northern hemisphere growers are out of season. Others look to our frozen range for consistent, high-quality ingredients that maintain flavour and nutrition year-round, even when local crops are limited. By offering flexible batch sizes, and both organic and conventional options, we support partners in Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, and beyond.

Our team works closely with customers to create solutions that align with their production timelines and quality standards, including multi-container orders.

A Partnership Approach

At Reid Produce Co., export relationships are built on communication and trust.

Our team is hands-on, from sourcing and processing to logistics coordination, ensuring that every order meets the expectations of our international partners. We pride ourselves on being agile, responsive, and transparent, bringing together decades of industry experience with the personal service of a family business.
